Rogers Townsend & Thomas, PC law firm recently divided $30,000 in community donations among three human service agencies, contributing $10,000 each to The Cooperative Ministry, Senior Resources and Columbia’s Family Shelter.

Columbia law firm Rogers Townsend & Thomas is giving back to the community, by donating $30,000 to three area charities.

The Columbia Family Shelter gives shelter to families on hard times, but now need help themselves. They need to raise $100,000 by the end of the year to avoid a cutback in services.

Town Theater will present a benefit performance of the musical “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” for The Family Shelter at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
All proceeds will support the Family Shelter, which provides emergency food and housing for homeless children and their families. The shelter announced in recent weeks that it is facing a financial hardship and needs to raise $100,000 by the end of the year to maintain its regular service levels. Homeless families a growing problem in Columbia and across the Midlands.

The Family Shelter’s 30-year tradition of serving transitional homeless families is being threatened as an increasingly tight economy is straining the residential facility’s ability to balance its books.

A Midlands organization is asking for the community's support to help keep its doors open.
“As soon as a family moves out, we move another family in,” says Executive Director Jon Artz, of Family Shelter.

Columbia's family shelter is asking for urgent help. It helps homeless families with children while they get back on their feet, but now the shelter needs $100,000. Without it, families will have nowhere else to go.
